Ginger Snaps

This was my group storyboarding project for storyboarding class last semester. Its about a serial killer going by his day to day routine until a little girl schout tries to sell him cookies. It can get kinda gruesome so viewer discretion is advised. The first part was done by me, second by Jemie Tran, third by Bree Paulsen and the last part is done by James Joyce. Enjoy!

Some Stuff from Fall 2012

Hey, Everybody! I survived another semester at LCAD and have lived to tell the tale. I took a lotta cool classes and met a lot of great new people.

                                  

 This first image was my final project for my Animal Drawing Class. I took a character that I may use in my senior year film and created a skeletal version of her. The story is about this little girl who encounters a ghost cat in a pet cemetery  My first pass at designing the character can be seen below. After doing the skeletal analysis, I'm thinking about incorporating more of a skeletal look to the final design to make a creepier character.

This summer, I took a class with the one and only, Eric Goldberg, who was the supervising animator for Genie and did the Rhapsody in Blue segment in Fantasia 2000, among many things. In that class, me and about 14 fortunate students created a film together entitled, Attack of the 50 ft Hero. It's currently on the festival circuit so it's no where to be seen online but I will be able to post concept work for it shortly.  Above is a thank you poster I created for Eric Goldberg and all the students to sign. Working on the film was one of my greatest achievements to date!

Above is another thank you poster for my cartoon idol, John K. He came down to LCAD and gave us a night of great stories and great cartoons. I made the poster and got tons of people from school to sign it and write kind words.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. There will be more stuff coming soon as well as a redesign of the blog.

Some Stuff from Spring 2012

Ay, Everybody! Spring Semester was caaarzy since I took 18 units, all studio classses, and worked on a short film. Theres still a few things I need to document and polish up but I'll leave you with some of this stuff for now...

 These are some character expression sheets that I made for the Eric Goldberg Masterclass, which I got accepted into! That means this summer I get to work with the Animator on Aladdin's genie and 15 other animators to create a short film from concept to completion! Admission into the class was competitive so I'm honored that I got in.

 These are character drawings I did while observing people at Irvine Spectrum, which is like an outside mall. In my figure drawing for animators class, we spent a day at Irvine Spectrum and that's how these drawings came to be.

Lastly, here are some celebrity caricatures I also did for my figure drawing for animator's class. Can you guess who they are?
Also, I just became the new Animation representative for LCAD which means that I will start posting things on the school's blog at some point so I'll post links from this blog to the other blog.

Fall '11

Here's a bit of stuff that I have completed at my first semester at LCAD. First up are a few pieces from my character design project which dealt with an indie rock/hipster culture reimagining of the Wizard of Oz...

I have drawings for the other characters but I still need to color them. Next is my final for my animation 1 class. We had to use a classic character and have him or her react to a door under specific guidelines. I used Tex Avery's Wolf character and this is what I got outta him. Enjoy and Critics are welcome!

New School, New Stuff

Ay, everybody! So I transferred to the Laguna College of Art and Design since I was looking for a better school to study animation. I've made it half way through the semester and thus far, I'm real happy here and I feel like my work has reached a higher level of quality. First up are some simple animation tests for my Animation 1 class. We are supposed to use well known and animatable cartoon characters for these assignments since we will learn what makes these characters work so well. So Disney and Warner Bros., please don't sue me!

Below is a digital painting I made for my intro to photoshop class. This was a real fun assignment and I think my rendering skills really improved. I'm gonna touch it up some more later by working out more value contrasts on the space chick and by really playing up the reflected lights. Any more advice would be awesome!

Summer Stuff

It's been a while since I updated. Here are a few things from Summer. First is some germ thingy I made for fun and also to explore more photoshop painting techniques. This is another installment of my monster series.

Up next is some work from an art program I took up in Florence, Italy. I lived there for four weeks and studied drawing and painting. The next two images are some figure painting that I worked on at the same time. One is meant to be objective and analytical while the other is meant to be expressive and the goal was to figure out how working between the two could benefit each other. This is a great way to work since it's a good way to gap from working strictly from observation to a more stylistic or imaginative approach. With that said, my teacher thought that the expressive painting was more true to observation.
